The Effect of Pharmacological Pupil Dilation on Intraocular Lens Power Calculation in Patients Indicated for Cataract Surgery

Purpose: To evaluate the influence of pupil dilation on ocular parameters measured by optical biometry and intraocular lens (PC IOL) power calculation using third-generation (SRK/T) fourth-generation (Haigis) formula. Methods: 40 eyes patients indicated for cataract surgery were included in this study. Each patient was examined biometer firstly without artificial mydriasis (AM) then after AM, which achieved local application short-term acting mydriatics. Biometric data Lenstar LS 900 biometer, we recorded axial length eye (AL), central corneal thickness (CCT), anterior chamber depth (ACD), (LT) astigmatism cornea. These used PC IOL both SRK/T Haigis The target postoperative refraction set to emmetropia. Statistical analysis performed evaluation AM each parameter recommended calculated Results: No statistically significant effect AL, LT keratometry demonstrated. On contrary demonstrated CCT ACD. formula proved – before did not differ any case. When calculation, changed +0.5 Dpt 9 eyes, i.e., 22.5 % whole group, but statistical show change as significant. Conclusion: Pharmacological significantly affects some case it can IOL. Conversely, when formula, pharmacological does affect power.
